How SkinCeuticals PTIOX works — the science

PTIOX addresses two distinct drivers of premature skin ageing: repetitive muscle contractions and environmental pollution. GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) — a naturally occurring inhibitory neurotransmitter — when applied topically modulates neuromuscular junction activity in the superficial muscle fibres responsible for repeated facial micro-contractions. By reducing the amplitude and frequency of these contractions, PTIOX diminishes the mechanical stress that deepens dynamic expression lines over time. This is a topical, non-invasive complement to the neuromodulator (Botox) mechanism.

The arginine component supports the skin's antioxidant defence network and helps maintain barrier function under environmental stress. The pollution defence complex scavenges the reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated by urban air pollutants — including PM2.5 particulate matter and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons — that have been shown to accelerate skin ageing through oxidative damage to collagen, DNA, and cell membranes.
